Mohamed Salah criticized Liverpool after being left on the bench in a recent match, saying he felt “thrown under the bus.”
His comments came after a 3-3 draw with Leeds and quickly drew attention back home in Egypt.
Many people in Egypt rallied to Salah’s side, seeing his words as the reaction of a national figure who was hurt by his club’s actions.
Former national team coach assistant Diaa El-Sayed compared the outcry to a deep, emotional reaction, while journalist Ahmed Gamal Ali said supporters felt the situation like the humiliation of a family member.
After the public criticism, Salah was not only benched but also excluded from the squad for a Champions League match against Inter Milan.
That choice led some Egyptian fans to shift their support toward Liverpool’s opponents in that match.
Despite tension with his club, Salah is concentrating on playing for Egypt at the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
He remains expected to be a key player for the national team as they prepare for the tournament.
